At Chardon Laboratories, we assist those in charge of quality control for various commercial systems, including boilers. Part of these services involves analyzing process water quality to balance scale and corrosion. We test boilers in health care facilities, breweries, manufacturing locations and food processing centers.

Why Water Testing for Boilers Is Critical

The most common issues associated with untreated boiler water are:

  • Scale: The buildup of substances like calcium, iron, magnesium and chloride reduces operational and heat transfer efficiency, which could lead to tube warping, leaking and rupture.
  • Corrosion: This scenario most often occurs due to high dissolved oxygen levels in water. Corrosion may include light, uniform attacks across the metal or localized pitting, which could cause penetration and boiler system failure.

Regular evaluation enables facilities to institute corrective treatments to reduce the effects of scale and corrosion. These services can contribute to better efficiency and a longer lifespan for equipment. Treated water ultimately can help lowers repair costs and reduce costly downtime. Examination also improves operator safety by decreasing the chances of system failures.

Comprehensive Analysis

Our technicians visit your facility with fully stocked test kits to perform various tests, including:

  • Titrations: These tests enable us to determine the concentrations of sulfite and chlorides. They also reveal total hardness and alkalinity.
  • Color comparators: We use visual tests to determine the concentrations of iron and molybdate. Other color comparator tests include pH papers for steam boilers.

Boiler Water Testing Procedures

We follow detailed and consistent testing procedures to ensure reliable results. For on-site analysis, technicians arrive with a well-maintained test kit, including all the essentials, such as glassware, syringes, filters and tongs.

Then, we test the water in liquid and vapor phases. Areas we sample from include:

  • Boiler
  • Feed water tank
  • Condensate receiver
  • Deaerator or surge tank

After measurement, we use the collected details to perform calculations regarding relevant details like cycles of concentration. We include the results of testing and calculations in a detailed electronic report.
